Announcement: Hiatus and What's Next

Hiatus

Many of you may have been wondering where all my hobby content disappeared to, and why I've had all these musings going on for the last little while. Well, it was in the works and now it's official: NEW JOB! (2.5 - 3 hours away.)

I won't go into details, because as I've mentioned before I like to separate work and play, but it's an incredible opportunity, more responsibility, more autonomy and of course all the benefits that go along with such a situation. On call duties may be heavier, (with lieu time of course so I don't go "something, something") and trips home on weekends to visit friends and family will cut into hobby time, but I'll try to work ahead on any projects or promised posts.

So, between recent holidays, travel, pondering over the new job, apartment hunting, packing, moving, arranging, etc... I'm not going to have much time for blogging over the next 3-4 weeks and knowing I'm going to be tearing down my work area doesn't make starting new projects appealing. My Blog-Fu posts will still be scheduled on Thursdays since I've already written them and since I'll be relying on you to entertain me, I'll probably keep the Weekly Updates going with links to the things that stand out to me. (I sometimes leave large posts unread so I can give them the attention they deserve, so my apologies if I don't mention something from a blog I read) You might still get the odd musing or follow-up as I have time to write here and there.

Finally, anybody know anything interesting to do in the Windsor / Detroit area?
TheWife and I are also looking for good stores with any relation to: gaming, hobby/craft, art, electronic, hardware, computer, reptiles/aquariums, beads, jewelry making, books, crochet, yarn, spinning, etc. (Preferably on the Canadian side)

(If you know, a comment or using the email link on the webpage would be appreciated)

What's Next?

Once we get settled into our new home, eta first few weeks of February, I'll begin blogging again, hopefully at full force. This is a list of what you can expect then:

  • Contest
    • I'll be announcing a contest Friday, which will come to an end when I return.
  • Massive Voodoo Mad Max Car Competition 2011
    • Not only am I entering this contest, but you'll get to follow my progress as it happens. The Back to Basics posts have been a great way to show simple ways of hobbying and now I'm going to kick it up to 11 and go extremely detailed. I've already picked out my kit and intend to look at every little piece of the build and see what needs to be done to make a post-apocalyptic vehicle modification - this could mean spending a night or two on each minor detail from tires to bumpers to mirrors.
    • Everything I do will be documented and posted here in smaller Work In Progress pieces, but there should be many updates. I haven't done WIP before - I prefer to show the entire build all at once, so I'm curious what it will be like and how receptive you are to it.
    • You may be able to expect some updates from TheWife as well on this project.
    • This will be my first project and a way to get a whole bunch of content to you to make up for my hiatus.
  • Air Brushing
    • My wonderful and loving wife bought me an air compressor and an air brush for Christmas and through all the crazyness I haven't had a chance to try it out. Expect me to start sharing tips and how-to's as I learn.
    • I'm hoping to use this on my Postapocalypibuddy Vehicle, so I'll be experimenting with this maybe end of February and into March.
  • Holiday Toys Tools
    • I've picked up a few new smaller tools over the holidays, so expect some talks on that as I use them.
  • Halloween Project
    • Ugh, I still need to finish this. For those new here, this was delayed due to a sudden insane work load for a non-profit that normally didn't require many hours from me and then bronchitis.
    • You can see the Pumpkin Golem and a Spooky Tree.
    • Probably get to this after the Mad Max car.
  • Light Box?
    • I'm going to try and make room in my new hobby area for some form of light-box to take pictures in. We will see.
  • Golden Demon?
    • I'd like to get away to Games Day, and have a bunch of great ideas swimming in my head for the Golden Daemon, but I really don't know if I'll have time to paint something worthwhile.
    • Honestly, the idea of building a Mad Max car for myself is more appealing than turning something out just to compete with at the moment. (Yes, I know the Mad Max thing is a competition too, but I've ALWAYS loved the post-apocalyptic genre, and this just seems FUN)
That's just the near-future stuff, I still have a huge list of things I'll be bringing to this blog as time goes by.
